My DIY Katniss Everdeen Costume

My daughter Alyssa is wearing the costume. It was obviously inspired by "The Hunger Games" movie.

The costume is of Katniss and Peeta in the chariot entering the arena for the first time, causing a stir because their outfits appear to be on fire.

My daughter wanted to be Katniss Everdeen for Halloween and I elaborated on the idea with the theme.

I made the costume out of all recycled materials. It's made from shipping pallet foam and cardboard from my work, craft paint, bungee cords, a belt, and a PVC pipe. I made the horses, chariot, flames and decorations for the horses and chariot by cutting out shapes in cardboard and foam and screwing and hot glueing them together.

I made a harness system with a belt and bungee cord to hold the costume on her back. I made a fake arm for her left arm to hold Peeta's hand while her real arm held the horses up with the PVC pipe.

I cut the flames out of cardboard and painted them with craft paint.

She is wearing a simple black long-sleeved shirt with a strip of leather fabric overlay painted.

My daughter braided her own hair and my wife pinned it up hairpins.

Happy Halloween everyone!
