Scarecrow Lives Costume with Scythe
Scarecrow with Neck Noose
Demonic Evil Scarecrow
For this costume idea, I took the legend of Samhain and brought it forward throughout the years. His story begins as the demon who can come to Earth every October, but not out of evil rather out of the desire to cause havoc.
When he came to the New World, settlers had no experience in what this creature was so they beheaded him and replaced his head with a pumpkin, which people would then light every year to send a message to keep him at bay.
He returned the following year and was hung, but he got free and went about his Halloween business. This is why he carries the noose around his neck and as a belt to return the message that he cannot be stopped. He is distracted by sweets and stays away when pumpkins are lit, but if you cross him, there will be one heck of a trick coming your way!
The makeup is a two piece prosthetic that I carved, molded, and painted, on top of a mix of face paint and lipstick to hold the color. The eyes are Cat Eyes from Hallowojos. I sewed the burlap hood and made the noose as well. The clothing is a collection of old clothes I had found around my house, and the scythe is an old Halloween prop from when I was little.
