Three Blind Mice Costumes

You probably recognize the "Three Blind Mice" from the popular nursery rhyme:

Three blind mice. Three blind mice.
See how they run. See how they run.
They all ran after the farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did you ever see such a sight in your life,
As three blind mice?

We really wanted to come up with some fun and unique for our Halloween costumes, but we also didn't have a lot of time to spend making them.

Plus, we were going to a party that was away from home (we were flying there), so whatever we were going to dress up as had to pack easily and not weigh too much or take up too much room in our luggage!

Not only that, but there were three of us. Couples costumes are a dime-a-dozen, but it's a little more challenging coming up with a theme for three.

We're not exactly sure how we came up with this idea, but the Three Blind Mice would be a perfect fit. Lightweight, easy to carry in luggage, and not too expensive - perfect!

We found some disposable white suits with hoods (made out of Tyvek I believe - you know that really durable material you see a lot for packages and envelopes) on Amazon - I think they were less than $5 each.

Mouse ears and noses can be picked up at any novelty or costume shop and are also very inexpensive.

Everybody has sunglasses - and no respectable blind mice would be caught dead without sunglasses!

The question was, would people understand who (or what) we were?

We had to make sure that everyone knew who we were just by looking at us.

So how could we be absolutely clear that we were blind mice?

Whites canes would be the perfect accessory!

There are lots of options you could use to make a white cane. You could use plastic PVC or a wooden dowel or even one of those folding measuring sticks!

I think I read somewhere that most visually impaired people use white canes, so if yours isn't white (i.e wooden dowel or black plastic), just wrap it in white tape (electrical or duct tape would work well) or little white paint will get you there.

We also taped some cheap plastic mice to our canes (just to be crystal clear).

Dressing up in these were great fun and it was awesome being part of a group theme costume!
